I m trying not to worry that camp 2010 is being to take shape!
We shall have to prepare 'lesson plans' soon! [ shades of Teaching Practice- I knew I was not a good teacher for young kids - had no belief in what I was doing , or the organisation to do it ...hence...when I left college I milked cows and then got a job as a groom to boost my horsemanship skills ]
As there is many months to go I ll try to stay calm and stay in the moment......I m hoping we meet some N H people ij New Z, and perhaps hone our skills ridng in the mountains [ our friends son , who milks 5000 sheep in invercary, rode on various sheep stations. On one particular trail the bones of horses littered the bottom of the ravine. Hmmmm a different type of hack? to yorkshire!]

So far this year we havent clipped any one , most unusual, its usually my job to do it. So called cobs with manes - its no good!Wills will be done soon , and perhaps Ben. it ll be an exiting day when Guinness gets his mane hogged , then I ll know how good [ or not] his sillouette will look.
I m pleased Duke is doing well- these Iberian horses have alot of noble spirit, which is great when it works with you!

when will the calendar with a naked taildragger be available?

Yes, I have to say that it does look ridiculous. However, in an effort to balance the whole picture out, I shall give him a chaser clip on Monday and will take the legs out too. Poor boy is going to be a bit chilly but heyho, he cant go around looking like he does.

I now have a portable set of German clippers, so if you would like Nins clipped out, do let me know!

Having a go at D&H was a waste of time. I knew that from the start, but felt so cheesed off I thought I would let them know just how much. They have done the deed and it would take an act of Parliament to change it now, so in protest I am going to switch to Happy Hoof.

On another subject altogether, Mrs Lockyer and I have booked in with Felicity again. Can't wait for summer at sinnington and my sweet little cottage. I am tempted to put in my food order with Tesco for delivery on the 9th July, but suppose I had better wait a bit. I have also had to fight off the impulse to start packing.

Talking of packing, is anyone from Yorkshire going to the Parelli Celebration at the NEC tomorrow? It would be fab to see you again.

Hope everyone has a fab weekend. hx

I've had it pointed out to me that our annual wall-to-wall non-stop horsey extravaganza sounds like a meeting of something rather different by calling it a 'camp'. From now on I will refer to it only as the Summer Clinic.

Oh well done Heather for pointing out to D&H that they mess with their product at their peril - there is nothing more frustrating than getting a bag of feed to find it's suddenly different.
Sorry to hear that you were poorly - you must have been bad if you didn't feel like shopping! Are you any better now?
As for ruining the illusion of Harry's thick ankles - what a dope! I'm tempted to come over and take a picture for posterity smiley

I too went to YHL on the Saturday. I have to say that I was supremely impressed by Sylvia Loch's and Charlie's stand on Rollkur. People were actually clapping. As Sylvia said, it will be a long haul, but justice is coming...

Naughty, wicked Herman, trust a horse to challenge you just when you really want a smooth ride. However I will say that when he had refused the first time, Marie was not listening to Charlies instructions and just carried on doing her own thing, so that is why he refused the second time. She probably was feeling the pressure of performing herself poor girl. Poor Charlie too, but there is nobody better equipped to deal with it than Himself. I thought it was an excellent demo and beautifully endorsed the message that SL was giving out, namely that one did not need to use gadgets to get a nice soft horse.

I must say that after The Operation the evening before, it was probably a bit optimistic to think that I could drive to Warwickshire and do a day at a show. I did not feel terrific and unusually for me, did not even feel like going shopping.

I did however, find the strength to complain to Dodson & Horrell about the recipe change for Safe & Sound. It no longer has the big 'blobbles' in and just looks like fine chaff. If that was not bad enough they have now packed it in so tight that it is impossible to pull out without bending one's fingernails back.

I was told that the packaging was done to appease the Merchants who needed to stack it. I asked about the end user (namely me) who didnt. No reply. Then the recipe change. The Rep. said that it was nutritionally better for the horse. I said bo**ocks, it was an edict from the Directorate to reduce the expensive content and market as a better product and price. She was not going to win and bought over her Manager when I kept going. Unfortunately for him he was not to know that in my past life I was Dr. S&M for a rather large concern and knew rather more about how the system works than he appeared to. The dispassionate but challenging exchange did me good. It acheived nothing other than to wear me out, but nevertheless I am still mightily aggrieved that they have messed about with my favourite product.

H and T have not had much done with them for the past 6 weeks whilst both Carol and I have been a bit poorly, so decided to give them a bit of a brush the other day. I looked at them and thought how revoltingly furry they were, so pulled out the clippers to address the problem and attacked the ankles with gusto. Mistake. Huge mistake. I now have a ned that has two-tone tiny thoroughbred ankles and legs that look like they could kick and elephant to death. Thank goodness nobody is going to see him for a while.

Hi,
If you're on my database then you'll already know about the summer clinic we're holding at Sinnington in July (10-15th inclusive) but if you haven't heard and you're interested then do drop me a line, or reply on this forum, and I'll answer any queries you might have.

I know it's early to be talking about next summer, but it beats talking about the winter and it's something to look forward to, and if you do want to come and want to have the widest choice of local B&Bs this is the sort of time you need to book your rooms - as some people have already done.

Despite being called the Summer Camp I assure you it does not mean living under canvas for a week - unless you chose to.

Given that the maximum number of places on the camp is 10, then assuming there are enough people to jusitfy a second camp (between 7 and 10) we will investigate the chances of running a second camp in late August. Of course, if you want to come to both that's fine cheesy

Jean, one of the workers at my livery yard went to your horse and really got a lot out of it. After my ride on Duke on monday she made me laugh when I said that he wasn't even in the rein on the right rein and maybe it is my left shoulder or something. She immediately told me that I should ride in my halter now she had seen Charlie!!! Duke is still working it out on the ground but I had wanted to keep him going in the riding as I want to hack him out as soon as possible and he must be in a bit on the road.

I am trying to get some back-up riden but he realy doesn't want to. He is so complicent generally so I am going back to more on the ground first.

He is being very good in the wind. I have ridden him outside in quite blustery weather and in the twilight. He is a bit more lit up but manageable. Opposite of Dancer.

Alex

Liz- have somehow 'mislaid' your email off the forum !! [ having tried to remove the Name of dressage personage - everything else went as well - many apologies!

I think Charlie had a very good time at YHL, even if things didnt quite go according to plan, esp on the first day when herman suddenly forgot he was a jumping horse! Poor marie was mortified , but it did lead to a demo on how to fix things and regain confidence.
The whole place very busy , as a 3 day show down to 2 days , and all the demos was over filled - in other words some people didnt get to see what /who they wanted , and a bit upset they d paid a goodly amount to basically go shopping - which most people do ,of course.
Charlie saw lots of people when he was on the N H mag stand , and the weekend went quickly . Here, there were no disasters, luckily!

I did have an interesting time with 3 dressage A T lessons on Fri. Yes, even top level riders get tense - I suppose the pressure of competition gets to us all. Whilst dressage isnt really my thing , I envy lovely sitting trot work, where bottoms dont move on the saddle at all! My back just isnt mobile enough these days , I dont think.

Interesting about your double liberty - sometimres horses just say no , and we can respect that , and have a day off ourselves! Now that Guiness knows and trusts me more , I ll be working him a t liberty soon. Bens saddle sits perfectly on him , and he is fine with everything I m asking - standing between bales and me patting saddle, jumping up and sown etc . Circling slowly but nicely , yields etc. Very sane so far. I only do a 1/2 hr at a time.
Did anyone see 'Im a celeb g m o o here ' last night? How unfair was that - putting non riders onto horses for a jungle trek , and trying to cross a river where the horses needed to swim.? Of course the riders were hanging on to the horse's mouths , and 2 came off - a total shambles, poor hosses!

No, the break out wasnt her fault at al. Polly is a lot better , which is suprising!
Interesting about Duke and the flexion , it just shows how he has 'contained' himself from human handling. Guiness is a fast learner , and once he understands he can 'givbe' to a movement he wil do so willingly. However , something new , and he braces. Yest tried sideways for the first time , and he soon got it, after a fleeting initial brace. A short trot on the circle had him also quite tense [ after being pushed on to show his 'step' no doubt, but soon was able to go around very loosely. He s starting to believe that he need not get ready for something bad to happen!
Tilly is a difficult one. Hormonal mares! I do like geldings! Inca, after being led off round the farm , was sat on outside for the first time. She is doing well. She leapt across the Beck , and as I ve taken her over logs [ on line] we can see she has a good leap in her.
Anyone want a senstive mare that will event , just let us know! C is leaning over Pebbles , who is just strong enough to take his weight! All last winters work is coming back now , after he pretended he knew nothing.
Off to teach Alexander now , and think of me teaching top dressage rider and daughter - I m easily intimidated!
