« Thread started on: Jul 18th, 2009, 1:25pm »

I had the time of my life at summer camp. We got to do all the things which we have always wanted to do, and more besides. I had my first ever flat out gallop on Harry and am still picking the dead flies out of my teeth where I was ginning (or grimacing) from ear to ear. Goodness me, I had forgotten just how fast neddies can go when they want.

Bareback riding was also a first. I loved it and wanted to do so much more, but I could see that Charlie's mind was focused on lawsuits, and visions of a sizable crater in the school floor as I perched precariously on a Happy Harry, and egged him on for more. so I gave in and we finished there. Next year Charlie I want to be cantering...!

Judith rode Harry exquisitely, such lovely hands. We tried out several double bridles to see which one suited him most, so I am now on the lookout for a thicker bridle than the one I have. Anyone want a newish Jeffries Hunter double?

I think the one enduring memory I will take away with me (apart from the Harrier at 200 feet and the nice man with the Aston Martin Vantage to whom I offered, and had declined, a recipricol tour of my disgusting horse and chicken poo filled filled Mitsubishi) is the last day with everyone riding in the field. I looked around in amazement at each and every person who started the course with issues - which we all have - all happily rocketing around. It is astonishing just how far we all came on during the week.

The journey home was accomplished in 4 hours almost to the second. I had 4 quick stops, and considering we had rain to Doncaster and the biggest thunderstorm in living memory at Bedford, we did not do badly. I spent the next two hours mucking the trailer out and putting sodden rugs and equipment away.

I am afraid that all the good that the Alexander had done to me was probably undone at this time.

Still, I met some terrific people, had a d**n good laugh and thoroughly enjoyed myself in breathtaking surroundings. Oh, I so dont want to be back home again. I am already planning next year and am busily encouraging Mrs Lockyer and Mrs Russell to come with me to sample the delights of Camp at Sinnington Manor.

A million thanks to Charlie and Judith for putting up with us and our horses. I hope you managed to get some much needed sleep last night!
p.s. still can't find the icon for spellcheck, so apologies for the spelling

Hi Everybody!
I had the time of my life too! Enormous thanks to Judith & Charlie! - and to all the wonderful people who made the camp so enjoyable - I had such a marvellous time! Tremendous memories - so many to list or I'd be here all day! and yes I'm already planning next year - can we pre-book/reserve now please?
I thought of you guys who had such a long drive home when I hopped off the M1 at J36 after such an horrendous spray filled/ rain sodden drive down the A1 & M1. So glad people got home safely!
Nobody will be surprised to know that Strider went back into his home field and started bossing the dominant horse - it was so funny to watch! The sad thing is the dominant horse - all 16.3 of him! gave in and moved out of Strider's way! Ooh dear - that liberty taught him a thing or two! Little monkey! I've obviously got my work cut out forever!
I've got withdrawal symptoms from summer camp but can't wait to see all the photos to re-live it all - the Harrier was something I can still breathe a sigh of relief about! I'll share mine once the batteries for my camera are re-charged!

Me and Tilly managed the journey well; avoiding two crashes and a brief pit stop for fuel and an emergency Mars bar. After Tilly's shameful behaviour leaving she travelled very well and was not sweaty at all. She ate all her hay and came out very calm and walked happily into the little pebble yard to greet Whisper. I kept them all in overnight as the rain was so bad and Tilly put herself in her usual stable waiting for tea. She is very relaxed to be back as adopted daughter of the civil partnership!

I really benefited from this camp with Tilly and the last afternoon riding around the other field was the icing on the cake. I have several things to work on with her - some I can do but 1 or 2 need to be in that sort of environment. I also need to have stronger arms to out fight her on occasion.

If I could only clone myself and bring all 3 of my horses that would be a perfect camp for me.

I definately want to come again and I realised on the way home that I expect Charlie to be able to do everything and rely on him too much but this is also his fault for being so good we know he has all the answers!!!!!! My secret wish for next year is liberty trailer loading...

Best wishes to all.

another happy camper! All that was missing was a red coat for Liz!! Really well organised but relaxed enough that everyone could do as much or as little as they wanted.

Charlie and Judith are both such great horsemen that you can't help learn tons just from watching them (even if i'm not so good at putting it into practice).

I am so glad that 'taildragger' enjoyed her first gallop up a hill - Cal was really going for it too - as was the hare that we set running ahead of us.

Our 'first' was jumping the logs in the field - pity the spectators kept sitting on the biggest one so we didn't get to do that - but as i told Charlie we don't 'do' jumping so it was a delight to find that Cal was happy to jump nicely.

Put my name on the list of those planning to be there next year too!

Cal has got home to find a new pony (a mare) in the field - he's not too sure about her at the moment. My old boy has been very protective of her, moving to position himself between them all the time - a fantastic horse-watching experience.

Heelo everyone! How wonderful to see lots of conversation going on on forum. Please do use it to keep up with other summer campers whom you dont otherwise see, or chat about anything else.

I can only say thank you ,thank you, thank you to everyone who made teaching and indeed the whole camp go easily and happily,[ if I dont sleep thats my fault] I also have lots of good memories , and love the mix of horse personalities that the liberty brings up. I worked the big grey horse we have at liberty for the first time yest, interesting! As expected he put on a bit of a show , especially when asked to stand in the naughty corner. Also at one point when I asked for lateral flexion he moved forward and then stood in the right place to kick me. I moved him away p d quick. [ Later when I asked C if he ever kicked he said he d tried it once , so I was right to be cautious! But by end he was following me nicely , and C then did groundwork , which the horse did well & softly. 1 good reason for liberty - get the objections done without even having to tussle on with them!
My photos of the camp are to be disced to Liz[ if I manage it], who will then collate them with pics off her phone , Vanessa s pics , and any other Liz is sent. I tried to put up some on facebook , but at the end of a long upload , it had failed . Some will also go onto our website.

I would say its quiet here now , but it isnt as theres a family in cottage , with 'mum' here to work with Charlie a few hours per day. She had gone from beginner rider to hunting in a very few years - jumping is the theme for the next few days- rather her than me!

Thanks again for all the positive comments - much appreciated - you were a fantastic group

LOL no............. rolleyes

But I did wash our horse Libby yesterday and it began to rain very heavily. I got absolutely soaked but did find another use for her fly sheet - it kept her warm while she dried standing in the field shelter!

Hi everyone
I am very new at this "forum" thing, so I will just dive in.
I had a lovely journey home! I hope you never move the camp to Cambridge!
When I got back I turned Ebony out and immediately all her herd of 10 started neighing in unison. Tears to my eyes (as usual). She cantered over and homed in to her little arab boyfriend! Hussy!
Since camp Ebony is a new horse. She even comes over and meets me in the field! That's a big thing for a grumpy old woman to meet another grumpy old woman! We have tried some liberty and was fairly successful, except there is a mother peathingy and 5 new chicks wandering round the school. I didn't want to be responsible for squashing them so I took Ebs out on a ride.
Thanks again Charlie and Judith. hey Liz, book me in for next year!

I hope this forum is going to be like the naturally horses forum used to be like, where we can all just chat and exchange interesting info. The nh forum is now full of complete (overly opinionated) strangers which is a shame, it used to be only for the people who came to the clinics and knew each other. So dive in young Sandra, and let us all keep in touch via this website.
Do you think that a bunch of male strippers would be a good idea for a lunchtime slot?

Just been chatting to Liz M. who has tried three times to register for this forum but alas, it will not let her post.
Hopefully this will be sorted out soon. Meanwhile, I wont tell you what she said about the male strippers, only the general gist, which is - she is all for it -. (I'm quite safe putting this here as I know she can't deny it!)

I have also got hold of Caroline about the forum. She has just replied saying that Luna is so much better and she iis going to do an Elementary 44 next weekend, which, to the uninitiated, is a highly complex dressage test. Makes my Walk/Trot and Prelim 9 test on Thursay evening look a bit rubbish. Never mind, I am looking forward to the bottle of fizzy afterwards, which we geriatric old farts indulge in when we meet for these events. It's the only thing that keeps us going! I Wish some of the Yorkshire girls were nearer to share. I miss you.

Dear Campers, You all know who you are. Thank you all for a very enjoyable week. Horse's legs completely recovered whilst I'm still staggering about. An especial thankyou to those very generous ladies who let me have a go on their ponies. I wish I could have taken them both home - the ponies, not the ladies. I hope the ladies - and the ponies - have got over the shock. Keep safe and be happy.

Hi all!
Its great to have lots of posts on the forum and hear how everyone is coping with 'life after summer camp'! Me too - I have major withdrawal symptoms and would love Scottie to 'beam me up' to Sinnington! Strider too of course without his naughty head on! Transported into a civil pony - maybe one day! I do keep trying...
It was a wonderful camp and the photos that Liz took have come out beautifully (thanks Liz and I hope you can soon get on here!) - I've passed the goup ones onto her so she can do her stuff with the CDs.
I haven't done all the washing yet and haven't even ridden - back into the daily routine of 3 ponies to muck out, and a myriad other things competing for my attention combined with dreadful weather (we've had lots of rain sad ) has meant Strider has had it easy since we came home. He let himself out of his stable this morning - bolted with a clip on it and had a mosey round the barn - little varmint!
You ladies doing the dressage - enjoy and good luck but I'm sure you'll do really well - my secret wish is to do a walk & trot test but I'm not sure Strider has bought into that yet! My secret wish list will be enormous by next year!

PS - Would anybody be interested in herbal remedies for horses? as a lunchtime talk at camp next year? Just a suggestion! Although 'taildragger's' suggestion is much more racy! How about those men on horseback? Now that would be interesting!!! Sorry just couldn't resist!
